January 7, 2015. Hopewell, VA. (ONN) The state of Virginia is holding three Special Elections this week to fill vacant Virginia House seats. In two of the three contests, there is an independent candidate. In yesterday’s Election for the VA 63rd State House District, an Independent-Green-endorsed independent faced off against a Democrat. And next week, a disgraced and just-convicted sexual deviant, to put it kindly, has been welcomed into the VA Independent Greens to win his legislative seat back.

William Henry Jones
In yesterday’s Special Election to fill the vacant 63rd Virginia House seat, William Henry Jones faced off against Democrat Joseph Preston. Jones is listed on the ballot as an ‘independent’ but he whole-heartedly welcomed the endorsement of the Independent Green Party of Virginia. The Independent Greens aren't the official affiliate of the national Green Party. But they quoted the candidate shortly before the Election saying, “If you know me, I don't mind challenges. January 6, you can choose. At least we're gonna have an election this time and not a coronation.”
Jones had little time to wage a full-fledged campaign, having only registered for the race in the final days before the deadline. But he promoted the local Green Party platform and brought voter attention to many of the issues considered critical. As detailed by the Independent Green Party of Virginia, those issues include:
When the ballots were finished being counted last night, William Henry Jones finished with a respectable 18.4% of the vote. A write-in candidate received 2.9%. And the winning Democrat captured 78.6%.
Fightin’ Joe Morrissey, convicted child predator
There isn’t enough sugar-coating or pig lipstick in Virginia to clean up the disgraced image and reputation of Democrat-turned-Green and former Virginia House member Joe Morrissey. For the record, as detailed by the local NBC 12 news outlet, ‘Under the agreement, Del. Morrissey (D-Henrico) entered an Alford Plea to one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The Alford Plea means he does not admit guilt, but understands there's enough evidence for him to be found guilty at trial. All other charges against Morrissey were dropped.’
Morrissey was sentenced to one year in jail and he resigned his State House seat on December 18, 2014. He leaves office the same day as next week’s Special Election to replace him. Ironically, after being rejected by the Democratic Party, the Independent Green Party of Virginia welcomed the scandal-plagued incumbent into their State Central Committee and endorsed Morrissey in his bid to reclaim his State House seat in the January 13th Special Election.
The Virginia Greens write on their website, ‘Tuesday January 13, 2015, vote for Fightin’ Joe Morrissey! Joe fights for you! Independent Green Party endorses and nominates Fightin’ Joe for House of Delegate special election January 13th, 74th district. Fightin’ Joe Morrissey Independent Green Party endorsee/nominee for More Trains, Less Traffic, the Green New Deal, solar jobs, wind jobs, geothermal jobs, rail jobs!’
According to multiple local news reports, including the above-linked NBC affiliate, the 55-year-old Morrissey was engaged in an ongoing sexual relationship with a 17-year-old part time secretary at his firm. Both deny any sexual activity took place. But local police say the two were under surveillance and having a virtually open dating relationship, complete with incriminating text messages. Morrissey’s attorney continued to insist his client believes he’s innocent, “Let me state unequivocally and uncategorically that he believes he is not guilty.”
The Special Election will be held January 13, 2015. Joe Morrissey is listed as an ‘independent’ and is facing both a Democrat and a Republican to reclaim his seat.
